Inauguration of the statue of Josif Budo, Berisha: Inspiration and light for all Albanians

Inauguration of the statue of Josif Budo, Berisha: Inspiration and light for all

The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, is in Kavaja today on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the fall of the First Martyr of Democracy, Josif Budo.

During his speech to those present, Berisha expressed, among other things, that Budo's sublime sacrifice became inspiration and light for all Albanians.

" Today we gather for the inauguration of the statue of the first hero of democracy, the young Josif Budo, whose blood, whose sublime sacrifice, was transformed into inspiration and light for all Albanians.
But it was truly transformed into liberation and freedom for his beloved city, for Kavaja.
On July 10, 1990, the dictatorship in its final throes, after having managed to dominate the first peaceful uprising of embassies on July 2 in Tirana, returned to Kavaja with the conviction that it would also deal a major blow to the city, its anti-communist groups, the freedom-loving spirit of the citizens of Kavaja, and would once again keep the Iron Curtain in Albania.
But the calculations, the calculations were completely wrong.
Kavaja, the city of the first anti-communist uprising on March 26, of undefeated men and women, welcomed the dictatorship with the sacrifice of Josif Budo and the bravery of its men and women, "It stood undefeated and accompanied its hero with great dignity, as he deserved, to his final resting place, to the abode of immortality," said Berisha.
