Death of 27-year-old, Lipjan Police Commander Resigns

Kosovo Police Director, Gazmend Hoxha, has confirmed that he has approved the resignation request of the Police Commander for the Lipjan region, Argjend Gashi, following the tragic incident that occurred this week, in which 27-year-old Agon Zejnullahu lost his life.

Hoxha stated that: "He has requested to be relieved of his duties and it has been approved," underlining that this decision was made after the event that shocked the local community in Lipjan.

Meanwhile, five Kosovo Police officers who detained the deceased on July 7 have been sentenced to one month in pre-trial detention. They are suspected of committing the criminal offense of "negligent homicide."

The case has prompted reactions from senior state officials, including Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and acting Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla. They have called for a thorough investigation and a full clarification of the incident.

The victim's family has expressed concern and disappointment over the lack of transparency on the part of the authorities. Agon Zejnullah's brother, in a statement to the media, stressed that they have not yet received any information regarding the circumstances of the death, while the deceased's body was "full of marks and fractures."

At the same time, civil society has expressed concern about the police's handling of the case. Activists have raised questions about the capabilities and preparation of police officers, noting that their training period has been reduced from six to three months. Security experts have warned that this reduction could affect the officers' ability to handle complex situations in the field.
