From drinking water to labor, the American Chamber of Commerce criticizes

The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania has criticized the authorities for several concerns that have become obstacles in the tourism sector.

In a response, the American Chamber of Commerce points out the lack of drinking water in coastal areas, the mismanagement of wastewater, the burning of waste in landfills, as well as the numerous construction projects that do not stop, even during the tourist season.

The American Chamber of Commerce also expresses concern about the lack of qualified labor, jeopardizing Albania's competitiveness as a tourist destination compared to other countries in the region.

REACTION:

The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania has been following the dynamics of Albanian tourism development with particular interest in recent years. We find it appropriate to express our appreciation for the positive impact of tourism activity on the Albanian economy, the increase in private investments in new accommodation structures, and the increasing trend in the flow of foreign tourists.

Meanwhile, in support of this sector, we would like to bring to your attention some of the challenges our members are facing at the beginning of this season. Addressing them in a timely manner will help maintain the success so far in promoting Albania as an increasingly attractive destination in the Mediterranean region.

The information provided by our members, part of this sector, speaks of coastal areas where the lack of drinking water, mismanagement of wastewater, burning of waste in landfills or the continuation of construction activities even during the tourist season continue to be a concern, thus affecting the functioning of accommodation structures, but also the quality of life of citizens and tourists in these communities.

We also find it appropriate to address the much-discussed issue of the labor shortage and the need for a long-term solution that focuses on the development, qualification and motivation of the workforce within this sector. The lack of trained staff has put many tourism businesses in difficulty, while also jeopardizing Albania's competitiveness as a tourist destination compared to other countries in the region.

With the good will to contribute to the development of a priority sector for the country, we request the attention of the Government, local government and relevant institutions to address these issues, thus helping not only businesses, but also strengthening this positive momentum for Albania's image as a growing tourist destination.
