EU translator fired over fears for Zelenskyy's safety

EU translator fired over fears for Zelenskyy's safety
The European Commission has fired an EU-employed translator over concerns about a possible security breach.

The translator was a Franco-Ukrainian freelancer brought in to help the leaders communicate with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to French newspaper Le Monde.

But they were fired after being caught taking notes during a sensitive session - this is strictly prohibited.

The commission told POLITICO that it took action over "an incident related to note-taking" during a European Council meeting that Zelenskyy attended in December last year.

" The notes were immediately confiscated, " a spokesperson told POLTICO.

The investigation has now been handed over to Belgian authorities.
