American Chamber: Tourism is being harmed by lack of drinking water, sewage and

The American Chamber of Commerce in Albania, in a press release, expressed concern about the situation created for tourism in the country, especially the lack of drinking water, mismanagement of wastewater, and the problem of the workforce in the country.

All of these are harming tourism activity and the quality of services, thus affecting the functioning of accommodation structures.

The Chamber said in a press release that it has been following the dynamics of the development of Albanian tourism continuously and with particular interest in recent years. We find it appropriate to express our assessments of the positive impact of tourism activity on the Albanian economy, the increase in private investments in new accommodation structures, as well as the increasing trend in the flow of foreign tourists.

Meanwhile, in support of this sector, we would like to bring to your attention some of the challenges our members are facing at the beginning of this season. Addressing them in a timely manner will help to maintain the success so far in promoting Albania as an increasingly attractive destination in the Mediterranean region.

The information provided by our members, part of this sector, speaks of coastal areas where the lack of drinking water, mismanagement of wastewater, burning of waste in landfills or the continuation of construction activities even during the tourist season continue to be a concern, thus affecting the functioning of accommodation structures, but also the quality of life of citizens and tourists in these communities.

We also find it appropriate to address the much-discussed issue of the labor shortage and the need for a long-term solution that focuses on the development, qualification and motivation of the workforce within this sector. The lack of trained staff has put many tourism businesses in difficulty, while also jeopardizing Albania's competitiveness as a tourist destination compared to other countries in the region.

With the good will to contribute to the development of a priority sector for the country, we request the attention of the government, local authorities and relevant institutions to address these issues, thus helping not only businesses, but also strengthening this positive momentum for Albania's image as a growing tourist destination./ Monitor Magazine
