After being criticized and even threatened with a lawsuit by Prime Minister Edi Rama for not launching investigations into illegal construction in Thetrh, Shkodra prosecutor Elsa Gjeli has written a letter to the High Prosecutorial Council.

Gjeli demands from the KLP a reaction to the statements that Rama has made against her, which she has described as "unacceptable political attacks" and "violation of the independence of the prosecution".

Likewise, the Shkodra prosecutor has shown herself willing to be investigated before the justice authorities regarding the Prime Minister's claims.

"In accordance with your powers, I ask the High Prosecutorial Council to: Analyze the Prime Minister's behavior in the context of violating the independence of the Prosecutor's Office and respecting the separation of powers; Consider the possibility of an official statement in defense of the Prosecutor's Office from unacceptable political attacks, emphasizing that regarding my individual case I am ready to be investigated before all judicial bodies;

"To take institutional steps to guarantee the safety and professional integrity of Magistrates who feel persecuted because of their independent decisions. I declare that I am ready to present any additional documents and to personally testify to the impact that these statements have had on my professional and emotional environment ," Elsa Gjel's letter states.
