Turkish Ambassador to Tirana Murat Ahmet Yörük, stated in a meeting at the University of Shkodra, that the Ottoman Empire came to Albania in order to protect Albanian lands at a time when Christianity was in a bloody clash.

Regarding the statement of the Turkish ambassador, Professor Stefan Çapaliku reacted. The professor writes that if the Turks and the Albanians are two brotherly peoples who have fought together, as the Turkish ambassador stated, then the five-century wars have been 'a quixotic invention of the minds of the Christian and Muslim Albanian people'.

On the other hand, taking into account the position of the rectory, he claims that he will never participate in any university activities.

Me këtë rast, i kërkoj kolegëve të mi, profesoratit të këtij universiteti, se nëse është kështu, siç deklaron "Rector Magnifico" e zgjedhur prej tyre, të pranojnë publikisht, se luftërat pesë shekullore midis shqiptarëve dhe turqve paskan pas qenë shpikje donkishoteske e mendjes së popullit të krishterë dhe musliman shqiptar.
