Tourists don't come, Albanians leave!

During May 2025, according to INSTAT data, the number of entries and exits of foreign citizens in Albanian territory was higher than that of locals. However, the growth rate of foreign tourists has marked a significant slowdown compared to the previous year.

In total, 1,676,222 Albanian and foreign citizens have entered Albania – an increase of 4.3% compared to May 2024. Of these, 689,145 are Albanian citizens who have entered the country, reflecting an increase of 8.9%.

On the other hand, the arrivals of foreign citizens in Albania reached 987,077, but their growth has slowed down significantly. Meanwhile, Albanians have traveled more abroad: 710,048 citizens have left the territory of Albania, with an increase of 7.2% compared to May of last year.

In contrast, the departures of foreign citizens during May 2025 were 945,052, a decrease of 0.9% compared to the same period a year earlier.

The vast majority of foreigners who have entered Albania come from the European region – around 95%. Southern Europe accounts for the largest share, with 72% of entries, followed by Western Europe with 14%.
