Leaving parliament in September, 82 MPs will receive half their salary for 3

Although they will no longer be part of the new legislature that begins in September, 82 MPs will continue to receive half their monthly salary from the state budget for up to three years, based on current legislation regulating the status of senior public officials.

This benefit is based on Article 7 of the Law on Supplementary State Pensions, which in the section on transitional payment provides that after leaving office, a deputy benefits from two full monthly salaries and then 50% of the gross reference salary, for as long as he or she has held office, but not more than three years.

Currently, the gross monthly salary of a deputy is 310 thousand lek, which means that each of the former deputies will benefit from 155 thousand lek per month until 2028.

According to calculations, the beneficiaries are distributed as follows:

45 deputies of the socialist majority

34 opposition MPs

3 Social Democratic Party MPs

This financial treatment is considered as a support for former public officials in the period after leaving office, however, it has sparked debate in public opinion due to the high cost to the state budget. Taken from Euronews Albania
