War/ Iran notified Qatar before attack on US air base

Iran coordinated its attack on the US air base in Qatar with Qatari officials, foreign media write.

Tehran reportedly gave advance notice that the strikes would be uninjured. Iran wanted to symbolically avenge the US attacks on its nuclear facilities on Sunday, but also wanted to ensure that both sides could ease tensions.

This is a similar case to that in 2020 when Iran notified Iraq before firing missiles at a US base in response to the killing of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani.

Iran launched a powerful and devastating missile attack on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, in response to the US attack on its nuclear facilities. Iran had previously threatened to retaliate against the US after attacks on its nuclear plants over the weekend. Earlier, Western diplomats spoke of an imminent and credible threat targeting the US base at Al Udeid.

Al Udeid is a massive base outside the Qatari capital, Doha, and is the headquarters of US Central Command for all its air operations in the Middle East. The base also houses British military personnel.
