US bombs Iran, hits three Tehran nuclear sites

The US struck three nuclear sites in Iran, joining Israel's attacks against Tehran's nuclear program and risking further escalation of the conflict.

President Trump, addressing the nation late Saturday, called the strikes "a spectacular military success" and said Iran's nuclear sites were "totally destroyed."

Trump had ordered the surprise attack, hoping to catch Tehran by surprise. The sites attacked - Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan - represent the core of Iran's nuclear infrastructure.

American bombers attacking nuclear sites dropped bunker-busting bombs called GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators for the first time in the war.

Trump warned that he could strike more targets in Iran if the country does not accept a diplomatic solution.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump's decision to attack, saying the US "has done what no other country could do."
