Freedom Party: The electoral terror of May 11 was clear proof of the failure of democracy

The Deputy Secretary General of the Freedom Party, Brunilda Haxhiu, in a statement to the media said that the terror committed on May 11 was clear proof of the failure of democracy and the rule of law in Albania.

Haxhiu stated that the massive manipulation of elections, the killing of votes before they enter the box, and the misuse of state institutions as criminal electoral machines, are unacceptable actions for a country that aspires to join the European Union.

The electoral terror of May 11 was clear evidence of the failure of democracy and the rule of law in Albania. The massive manipulation and killing of the vote before it even enters the ballot box, the barbaric misuse of the state as a criminal electoral machine, vote buying and the distortion of the result are unacceptable for a country that aspires to join the European Union.

European integration is not just a political agenda, but a commitment to values ​​and standards. Among these standards, free, fair and equal elections are the foundation of every European democracy.

Today, Albania is far from these principles. Today, Albania produces an electoral farce and not a functional democracy.

In Albania, where invalid ballots fill the ballot boxes and where there are more ballots than voters, the institutions are silent. This double standard is a shame for a country that aims for the EU, but functions with the models of Balkan autocracies.

The Freedom Party and the opposition have denounced facts and evidence of the electoral crime, which began with the terrorist kidnapping of the President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, and was sealed with the electoral terror of May 11, through the use of the "Bulgarian train", irregular voting and massive voter fraud through patronage and threats for the sake of livelihood. On May 11, the election standards were openly destroyed, in front of the cameras where state institutions acted like an organized mafia group, as in the case of the Municipality of Vora where the polling stations were taken hostage by electoral thugs and where the imaginary SPAK Task Force, established only to hit and blackmail the opposition, has still not registered a criminal proceeding to this day.

The preliminary OSCE-ODIHR report mentions the use of state resources, pressure on the administration, vote buying, media capture, etc.

The Freedom Party is clear and convinced in its position that there is no integration of Albania into Europe with Edi Rama's "Bulgarian trains". European integration cannot be built on stolen votes!

There can be no European integration without free and fair elections.

The Freedom Party has been and remains a steadfast supporter of Albania's integration into the European Union. But Integration is not a decoration, nor a political facade. It is a free vote, a functional democracy, a state of law.

The electoral terror of May 11 will never be accepted by the Freedom Party.

Without guaranteeing free voting, the foundation of democracy and the rule of law, there can be no integration of Albania into the European family!
