Israel agrees to ceasefire with Iran

The Israeli government says it accepted the ceasefire proposal after "achieving the objectives" of its attacks on Iran.

According to the statement, Israel has removed the dual existential threat from nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

The statement said Israeli forces had "heavily struck government targets in the heart of Tehran in the last day, eliminating hundreds of Basij operatives" - a militia that the Iranian government often uses to suppress protests - and "eliminated another senior nuclear scientist".

The Israeli government has also thanked US President Donald Trump.

"Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their defense support and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat," the statement added.
