The salmonella meat scandal is not over in Albania.

In recent days, two Albanian companies that deal with the trade of imported meat have introduced several shipments that, after samples were taken, resulted in salmonella from ISUV, which is an internationally certified laboratory for such analyses.

In this case, after ascertaining cases of Salmonella after the analyses are carried out, the BIP inspector, at the border who has also taken the samples, orders the subject to return the imported quantity to the country of origin.

But that is not what happened. By order of the Director General of the National Agency for Health Insurance, Manush Kullolli, on 20.06.2025, it was requested that the analysis be carried out in one of the EU countries, when he himself a few days earlier, precisely on 30.05.2025, responded to businesses that the analyses could not be carried out abroad.

It is not clear why the general director of the AKU does not trust an institution like the AKU to conduct the analyses abroad and why he has changed his mind. With this logic, perhaps we should close ISUV since it is not reliable as a certified laboratory according to the AKU.

SYRI is also aware of the 2 entities that have imported the quantity of meat with salmonella, but until this quantity has entered the Albanian market, we will not publish their names, as they do not pose a risk to the consumer.

If this quantity enters the Albanian market, then we will publish their names and denounce this open violation of the law./Syri.net
