Feride Rushiti and the KRCT are nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

Feride Rushiti and the Kosovo Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Survivors (KRRT) have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025.

The nomination was made by the Swedish Parliament member, Magnus Jacobsson, who in a letter sent to the Norwegian Nobel Institute Committee, said that he took this decision to recognize the "extraordinary contributions" of Rushiti and the KRCT "to advancing human rights, the dignity of survivors and the healing of the wounds of war of communities."

“The Nobel Peace Prize aims to recognize individuals whose work promotes peace, justice and reconciliation. Feride Rushiti and the KRK embody these ideals through their lifelong commitment to supporting the most vulnerable people, healing the wounds of conflict and building a foundation for lasting peace in Kosovo and beyond,” he wrote.

After the publication of the letter from the Swedish MP, Rushiti said she is honored and expressed gratitude for this nomination.

"This moment is a huge achievement for me, the incredible KRCT team, and most of all, for the survivors we have had the privilege of serving for 25 years," she wrote on Facebook.

The nomination, Rushiti said, is an inspiration for collective efforts, “advocating globally and sharing Kosovo’s good practices, to address this grave wound and contribute to the prevention of sexual violence in conflict, as well as achieving justice for survivors.”

In a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Jacobsson said Rushiti has dedicated her career to addressing the devastating effects of torture, sexual violence and other atrocities of war.

The RCRM, according to him, has provided critical medical, psychological and legal support to thousands of survivors "ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met."
