"The peoples who sleep in democracy, risk waking up in dictatorship"

Today, after 10 years, 1 million Albanians have left the country. Poverty has increased terribly and competes with crime.

We made a mistake somewhere.

Each of us tried hard and order towards economic security, but we forgot a lesson of history that we have experienced: political rights are essential for the exercise of economic freedoms.

If we allow their limitation we risk re-falling into a dictatorship similar to what we have experienced. With one difference: today we are not allowed to leave everything and run away.

Taking away the most precious thing - our children, the joy of our hearths, the future of the country.

This is not called election, this is subjugation, desecration of our rights.

In the 90s, I took an active part in all the events of the December movement and the months that followed, without having any intention of engaging in politics, and in fact – due to my age – without even having economic claims.

What I could not accept and what made me absolutely determined in my resistance was the denial of political freedoms – the right of speech, the right to think differently, to choose the way of life, of education, the right to believe.

We rejected this because we wanted to live as free people, with dignity. We went on hunger strike for the removal of Enver Hoxhe's name from UT, as a test of strength against the regime and we won.

So, we were the generation that stayed and won against the most brutal dictatorship of the east. We won because we dared! because we stayed! because we got together!

I wonder again, what happened to him? At what point in our journey did we go wrong to come to this state? Why were we not able to create a home, a secure future for our children in this country.

Maybe because at some point, we told ourselves that our mission was accomplished, that our narrow professional path, or the work of each one, was more important and independent from the broad path shared by all. That we don't have the opportunity, time, or that it's not worth raising your voice about anything, that it's not worth opposing an evil that doesn't directly affect you at a moment's notice.

But the evil is strengthened by our indifference and it became more and more imposing.

We condemned ourselves to the consequences we face today, the moment we chose the shell over the substance.

When we did not stand up for the most unlikely, who filled the cells for electricity bills, we did not see that evil would soon knock on the doors of those who were not just consumers, but generators of the economy.

When working the cannabis plots became the new agriculture, we ignored the fact that crime would soon spread to every street corner and threaten our children.

When our hospitals stopped providing medicine and treatment for diseases, we did not raise our voice to strongly demand this right, but we looked for alternatives abroad.

Kur pushteti ndërhyri në çdo të dhënë personale do të kish qenë në dinjitetin e çdo njeriu të lirë ta shkundte nga themelet kalbësirën që kërkon të n’a dominojë, por ne u tutëm dhe thamë se këta të bëjnë çdo gjë.

Kur arsimi degradoi rrokullimthi,

kur rruga u bë kërcënim i përditshëm,

kur krimi pushtoi ekonominë dhe mori në dorë qeverisjen e vendit, me heshtjen tonë ne lame në baltë të ardhmen e fëmijëve tanë.

Gritschneder thotë se “Popujt qe flenë ne demokraci, rrezikojnë të zgjohen në diktaturë”.

Ne harruam se çfarë kishim qenë të aftë të bënim –ne, – brezi që rrëzoi një diktaturë dhe që ngriti nga hiçi një ekonomi tregu.

Ne kemi ditur të ngrihemi dhe të luftojmë, por lejuam të keqen që erdhi nga kreu, të shtrihej e kapilarizohej në shoqëri dhe sot e gjejmë veten të ngërthyer prej saj.

Ajo që është më e pafalshme është mësimi, shembulli që u lamë fëmijëve tanë.

Ndryshe nga sa kishim bërë vetë 30 vite më parë, ne deshëm të evitonim përballjen e tyre me të keqen. U mësuam atyre se është më mirë të ikin e t’i përvidhen të keqes sesa të përballen e t’a mundin atë.

Por kjo është rruga e nënshtrimit, e kurrizpërthyerjes.

Nëse ne nuk u mësojmë atyre se si të përballen, fëmijët tanë rrezikojnë, të jenë një ushtri të frikësuarish e të nënshtruarish të shpërndarë nëpër botë, pavarësisht sa të pasur apo të shkolluar mund të bëhen.

A është detyra jonë që sot edhe një here, në emër të misionit prindëror, t’a bëjmë këtë betejë për fëmijët tanë?

T’u mësojmë atyre qëndresën ndaj të keqes, përballjen me dinjitet. Për t’u dhënë një trashëgimi që do t’u vlejë pavarësisht vendit ku do jetojnë.

Nëse sot shpresa është vrarë, është detyra jonë t’a kthejmë atë. Të tregojmë se ikja nuk është zgjidhja, se njeriu mund të arrijë çdo majë nëse beson, të mundë çdo të keqe nëse qëndron dhe guxon.

Fëmijët tanë shkojnë në vende ku punësimi, shëndetësia, shkollimi ofrojnë siguri, por ne nuk duhet t’a lëmë shtëpinë e tyre të shkretohet.

Kjo tokë është trashëgimia e tyre me ligjin natyror – ajo që u ka dhënë Zoti kur erdhën në këtë botë. Ata mund të bëhen më të pasur e më të zotë atje ku janë, por kjo mbetet shtëpia e tyre.

Eshtë detyra jonë të mbajmë hapur shtëpinë për ta.

Të kthehemi dhe të korrigjojmë gabimet tona, të rregullojmë atë që u prish edhe nga indiferenca jonë ndaj së keqes. Që një ditë, kur ata të kthehen t’a gjejnë shtëpinë e tyre mikpritëse dhe ftuese.

Kjo kërkon që ne të ngrihemi dhe një here, tashmë jo më për vete, por për fëmijët tanë.

Partia Demokratike ka qenë gjithnjë parti e frymës. Ndaj unë kam besim se në radhët e anëtarëve dhe simpatizantëve të saj, më shumë se kudo tjetër, ka idealistë që, njësoj si 30 vite më parë, kanë brenda vetes forcën dhe motivimin për t’u ngritur dhe për të bërë ndryshimin.

Jam e bindur se nevoja për të risjellë ligjshmërinë dhe shpresën tejkalon interesat politikë dhe është tashmë kërkesë e të majtëve dhe të djathtëve.

Sot është koha e aksionit për çdo njeri.

Eradicating evil, freeing hope from the chains of crime will perhaps be the second major achievement of the generations that once toppled a dictatorship.

To realize a major project, it is not necessary for everyone to make big plans and actions, but for all of us to work for a common project and for each of us to carry even just one stone in its construction - the stone of faith , of action, of hope, or of union.

I address women, mothers in a special way. You who are the strongholds and heart of your homes, you are strong enough to rebuild our great, common home.

You are capable of making a difference, so become the face of the Democratic Party's action for change and give it your energy.

You who know the plight of every house in your neighborhood, make them our common concern, that you may restore hope of relief to the people.

You who weave dreams for your children and know their dreams better than anyone, bring them so that this force can turn them into projects of Albania's hope.

You who have raised your families, join your strength in the political action of the Democratic Party so that we can once again raise the future of Albania together and return hope to its peak.

As one of you, I know the strength you carry, the energy you convey.

I know that with God's help, there is no goal that man cannot achieve, no evil that we cannot overcome.

But courage and determination are the cradle of VICTORY! 

SO Let's stand up once again for our home and the future of our children.
