The iconic painting "Bust de femme" by Pablo Picasso is up for auction
Pablo Picasso's painting Buste de femme, which he created two years before his death in 1971, will be auctioned today in the German city of Cologne for a value ranging from 1.5 million euros to 2.5 million euros. . "Probably a painting by Pablo Picasso has never been offered on the German auction market," said auctioneer Robert van den Valentyn.
Picasso's second wife, Jacqueline Roque, can be seen in the photo. This painting comes from an important German private collection. Among the more than 600 works with a total volume of over 10 million euros are the works of Louise Bourgeois, Paul Klee, Sigmar Polke, Egon Schiele and Kurt Schwitters. This year's Van Ham Spring Auction will be held on June 5th and 6th.
"It is the first time in at least 25 years that a large painting by the Spanish artist has been auctioned in Germany," according to the Van Ham auction house. We recall that the painting "Woman sitting by the window (Marie-Thérèse)" by Pablo Picasso was sold about two years ago for 103.4 million dollars during the auction organized at Christie's in New York. The 1.46m by 1.14m painting, painted in 1932, was estimated at $90 million and came to $103.4 when fees and commissions were added, after a more than 19-minute battle between collectors.
