Italian court overturns Hysaj's conviction, Albanian defender fined 40,000 euros

Italian court overturns Hysaj's conviction, Albanian defender fined 40,000

After more than five years of legal battles, Italian justice has finally ruled in favor of the Napoli club, ending one of the most tense chapters in the club's modern history.

At the center of the Court of Cassation's decision is Albanian defender Elseid Hysaj, now part of Lazio, who has been sentenced to a fine of 40 thousand euros and the obligation to cover all costs of the legal process.

The case began on November 5, 2019, after Napoli drew with Salzburg in the Champions League. At the time, club officials, unhappy with the results, ordered a mandatory training camp for the team. But several players, including Hysaj, refused the order, causing a clash with president Aurelio De Laurentiis. The coach at the time was Carlo Ancelotti.

While most of the players reached an agreement with the club through the intervention of the Arbitration College in 2021, Hysaj chose to pursue the legal process to the highest instance, but without success.

The Court's final decision gives Napoli the right to punish players who violate internal discipline, setting an important precedent for Italian clubs in managing relations with footballers.
