BBC broadcast in China banned

The prestigious British channel BBC World News has been banned from broadcasting in the state of China. This news was announced yesterday by the Chinese National Administration for Radio and Television, through a statement.

China has criticized the BBC for its reporting on the coronavirus and its handling of the Uyghur ethnic minority issue.

"The State Administration for Film, Television and Radio does not allow the BBC to continue broadcasting in China, and does not accept the annual application for broadcasting," the statement said.

While the British media reacted to a public announcement through the channel itself, expressing disappointment with the decision:

"The BBC is the most trusted news broadcaster in the world and reports from around the world accurately, impartially and without fear or favoritism."

The announcement comes just days after the British media authority denied China State Television Network (CGTN) its broadcasting license.

Relations between China and the UK have been strained significantly in recent months mainly over the Hong Kong issue. In January, the UK introduced a new visa that gives Hong Kong 5.4 million people the right to live in Britain because it believes China is undermining their rights and freedoms.
