Lajcak and Escobar next week in Kosovo and Serbia

The European Union's special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, and the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, are expected to visit Kosovo and Serbia next week.

According to Radio Free Europe, they will stay in Pristina and Belgrade on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the same source, their visit will have two main goals: the reduction of tensions in the north of Kosovo and the continuation of work on the implementation of the Agreement that leads to the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations.

This visit of two senior officials comes at a time when the situation in the north of Kosovo is tense.

Tensions in that part of Kosovo increased on May 26, when the Kosovo Police helped Albanian mayors of Serb-majority municipalities enter the municipal offices, despite resistance from local residents.

The USA criticized the Kurti Government for its actions and sanctioned Kosovo with non-participation in the "Defender Europe 2023" military exercises.
