He was hit in the head by a hammer, the 19-year-old athlete dies

A 19-year-old Cuban, Alegna Osorio part of the Youth Olympics, has died after severe injuries caused by being hit in the head by a hammer during the training phase.

According to foreign media , Osorio was training as he was hit by a hammer at the track stadium in Cuba in April.

The 19-year-old's death was announced at the Tokyo Olympics by US hammer thrower Gewn Berry, shortly before she started her race.

Meanwhile, the president of the National Sports Institute in Cuba, Osveldo Vento, reacted to the event. "We share this unbearable pain with her family," he said.

Alegna Osorio was ranked fourth by the girls at the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympics and managed to secure the bronze medal in the Pan-American Under-20 Championships about two years ago.
