Trump administration decision threatens academic future of Princess Elisabeth of Belgium

Trump administration decision threatens academic future of Princess Elisabeth of

The heir to the Belgian throne, Princess Elizabeth, is facing unexpected academic uncertainty after a decision by former US President Donald Trump's administration to ban foreign students from Harvard University. The decision, which also affects current international students, risks disrupting the princess's studies at one of the world's most prestigious institutions.

Elizabeth, 23, has just completed the first year of a two-year Master of Public Policy program at Harvard, but could be forced to leave the United States if the US government's decision remains in effect. According to the university's official announcement, the US administration has revoked Harvard's right to enroll international students, including those already present on campus.

The spokesperson for the Belgian royal palace, Laure Vandoorne, stated that the situation is being carefully monitored:
"Princess Elizabeth has just completed her first year. The impact of the Trump administration's decision will become clearer in the coming days or weeks. We are currently investigating the situation," she said.

On the other hand, the palace's communications director, Xavier Baert, stressed that further developments are expected:
"We are analyzing the situation at the moment and will let things calm down. Many things can happen in the coming days."

In an attempt to challenge this decision, Harvard University has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Boston, arguing that the measure violates the First Amendment to the US Constitution and federal laws guaranteeing the right to education and academic freedom.

Before continuing her studies at Harvard, Princess Elizabeth completed her bachelor's degree in History and Politics at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. As the eldest daughter of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, she is preparing for an important role in Belgium's political and institutional future – a path that, for the time being, remains uncertain.
