Democratic Party candidate for deputy, Jola Hysaj, declares that in the Durrës district, the period before the May 11 elections was marked by tension and blackmail against voters.

According to Hysaj, the most intimidated are small businesses, citizens who have apartments in the legalization process, and those employed in the administration or the municipality of Durrës, who are pressured by being told that their votes will be read.

" We are at the hottest point of the campaign where nothing has changed. Durrës itself as a region is the catalyst for all of Albania, At least for me from 20 years of experience if the change started from Durrës, it means that there is a change in all of Albania. There are tensions, what has happened this campaign in Durrës, unlike other campaigns, are tensions in groundwater still. The pressure on the administration and small businesses is very strong.

They are told that it is possible to read their vote even before it goes to the box. This is terrible. I read it in two aspects. Or there will be some restriction of people from voting, which has happened before for the sole reason that they have been threatened before and on the other hand have been blackmailed into reading the vote. Whether this is through legalizations that have been promised or money and job positions, where they have been told that they will be fired when their vote is read. To best illustrate the situation, Hysaj brought up a specific case from her electoral meetings, saying that in neighborhood no. 8, while walking the streets and meeting residents of the area, they felt threatened by the presence of patronage activists.

"In certain areas of Durrës, tension is increasing. I can give the example of the first two days in neighborhood no. 8 in Durrës, in which we were accompanied not only by patronage workers, but we had them driving around our feet in cars. Not to intimidate us, but the citizens of the area. This type of control, which comes in this form, becomes very scary for the citizens.
