Figures from the Labor Inspectorate show that during 2024, 177 accidents were recorded in businesses, up from 168 in the previous year.
From these accidents, 33 employees have lost their lives, up from 30 which was the tragic balance in 2023. The number of lives lost in the workplace is the highest since 2020.
The most problematic sector remains construction with 11 victims, followed by mining with 5 deaths, and then manufacturing and trade enterprises with 3 fatalities each.
Working at heights, gallery collapses in mines, production machinery, and accidents with transport vehicles in the trade sector are the main causes of workplace fatalities in Albania.
Sectors with the highest number of fatal accidents, such as construction, mining and manufacturing enterprises, will be the focus of ongoing detailed investigations and controls by the Inspectorate.
