The fire situation in Albania continues to be worrying. In the last 24 hours alone, a total of 24 fires have been registered in several areas of the country, while 6 of them continue to be active, involving areas with vegetation, forests and even homes.

According to official data from the Ministry of Defense, the fires have spread to the municipalities of: Elbasan, Finiq, Delvinë, Selenica, Vlorë, Tirana, Vorë, Krujë, Has, Mat, Malësi e Madhe, Kurbin, Korçë, Poliçan and Gjirokastër.

Meanwhile, the 6 active outbreaks are in:

Elbasan – In the area of urban waste, where the intervention with inert materials and waste encapsulation has been continuing for days. A group of experts is monitoring air pollution, while firefighting forces and heavy vehicles continue to work to completely isolate the flames.

Finiq – In the area between the villages of Grazhdan and Malçan. The intensity of the fire has decreased, but the situation is being closely monitored by firefighters and the Forest Service.

Vlora – In the “Sotiran” area, between the villages of Tragjas and Dukat, a fire has engulfed bushes and low vegetation. Firefighting teams from the Vlora municipality are on the ground working to extinguish the flames.

Tirana – In the village of Bulticë, Vaqarr administrative unit. Difficult terrain prevents intervention with firefighting vehicles, but emergency forces and 40 troops of the Armed Forces are continuing the operation on the ground.

Has – In the mountainous area between the villages of Gjinaj and Domaj, where an area of pine forest is burning. The wind and mountainous terrain make intervention difficult.

Poliçan – In the village of Zgërbonjë, where a fire has engulfed bushes and thorn bushes. Firefighters with 2 fire engines and 7 personnel were involved in the operation.

It is reported that the fires have caused material damage and massive interference. So far, a total of about 7 hectares of shrubland and low vegetation have been burned, while in three cases, the flames have also engulfed homes, but fortunately without any human casualties.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Geosciences announces that light local rainfall is expected today, but the risk of fires remains high in most of the country. In the regions of Durrës, Korçë and Vlorë, the risk is predicted to be moderate, but in some specific areas it may again reach a high level, especially in the south of Durrës, in the center of Korçë and north-center of Vlorë.

Civil Protection structures call on citizens to avoid starting fires in open spaces, to exercise maximum caution in high-risk areas, and to immediately notify fire services or authorities in the event of the discovery of fires.
