Not only the body, swimming also helps the brain

A study published in Physiology & Behavior has found that just 60 minutes of swimming a day, for seven consecutive days, brings significant improvements in both short-term and long-term memory.

According to researchers, swimming helps: increase blood circulation in the brain, increase levels of the protein BDNF, which is closely linked to memory function and the learning process, and promote the creation of new nerve cells, especially in areas of the brain associated with memory.

Also, the coordinated body movements during swimming activate both hemispheres of the brain, improving focus, cognitive function, and spatial orientation.
