Former Arsenal player Thomas Partey accused of rape

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape.

The 32-year-old has also been charged with one count of sexual assault, Sky News reports.

Two of the rape charges relate to one woman, three charges relate to a second woman, and one charge of sexual assault relates to a third woman.

The incidents are alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.

The Metropolitan Police said he will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 5.

"The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which began in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape," police said.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy said: "Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward."

The defence lawyer said: "Thomas Partey denies all allegations against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and the CPS throughout their three-year investigation.

"He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name. Given that there are currently ongoing legal proceedings, my client cannot comment further."

Partey has just left Arsenal after his contract expired and is said to be attracting interest from clubs including Juventus, Barcelona and Fenerbahce.
