Rama dismisses directors in Vlora, Association of Local Elected Officials: It

The Association of Local Elected Officials has reacted after the dismissal of the directors of the Municipality of Vlora on Rama's orders.

The association, in its reaction, expresses concern about the Prime Minister's repeated interventions in the administrative affairs of municipalities.

Among other things, the association calls on supervisory institutions to react and protect the integrity of local government.

“The recent interventions constitute an unacceptable practice, which contradicts the fundamental principles of the Constitution of the Republic of Albania and Law No. 139/2015 'On Local Self-Government'.

"It is unacceptable for central-level political representatives to directly intervene in appointments, dismissals or administrative decision-making in municipalities, which are independent institutions elected by the citizens," the statement further states.

"The association calls on supervisory institutions to react and protect the legal integrity of local government, while requesting political actors to respect the constitutional limits of their responsibilities so as not to undermine the democratic functioning of local government," the response states.
