Why Ronaldo was absent from Diogo Jota's funeral, explains the football

Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aviero, has come to the aid of her brother, who faced heavy criticism for not attending the funeral of his Portuguese teammate, Diogo Jota, which took place on Saturday, July 5, in a reaction on social media.

His absence sparked huge criticism of the football icon, given that other players arrived in Jota's city despite having previously played matches all over the world.

Responding to the criticism, Aveiro shared a series of stories on Instagram, reflecting on her family's experience with loss when their father passed away in 2005. She recalled how the media invaded their privacy at the time, creating chaos at the cemetery and showing little respect for the family's grief.

Ronaldo's sister's reaction:

"When my father died... in addition to the pain of loss, we had to face a flood of cameras and curious people in the cemetery and wherever we went. And then the media attention was not like today... At no time were we (the children) able to leave the chapel; only at the moment of the funeral, because there was a huge commotion". "The funeral was attended by presidents, national team coaches at the time, such as Luís Filipe Scolari, etc. I don't remember them at all. Even if they greeted me, I didn't see them. The pain had blinded me".

"As far as the pain, the family, and the real support… You never know what it means until you experience it yourself. If someone sends me a message criticizing my brother for anything, I'll block them immediately. So, they'll only do it once."

"It's getting tiring. Fanaticism. Criticism for nothing, I repeat, for nothing... Sick society... We all have families. It's extremely shameful to see TV channels, commentators, social networks that are more concerned with the absence at a funeral than with respectfully honoring the pain of a family devastated by the loss of two brothers. I'm ashamed. Sad."

"And that's how the world goes... Society and opinion. Today they are no longer valuable. They have turned into meaningless abysses. I'm sorry... War is like that too. Believe me. Human evil is a war too. And every day we have to fight against it. And life goes on," she wrote.
