Journalist Ola Xama has published the 2023 Census figures for residential buildings, according to which it turns out that there are 85,457 uninhabited houses in Tirana district, while there are 52,871 houses in Tirana municipality.

Journalist Xama considers this as an economic, environmental and social crime that must be stopped, because if there are no more new constructions, just to fill the 52,871 apartments that are empty and the rate of population growth remains unchanged, it will it takes 45 years.

The full reaction of journalist Ola Xama:

"According to the newly published data of the 2023 Census at the district and municipality level, it turns out that there are 85,457 uninhabited houses in the Tirana district, while there are 52,871 houses in the Tirana municipality.

The published data, having as an indicator the energy consumption 1 year ago, found that almost 51 thousand apartments in the capital are empty.

These figures were disputed in dozens of ways, sometimes by dividing them into commercial units, sometimes by abandoned houses, and sometimes by saying that we added water contract links.

It is now official from INSTAT itself: the population in the capital has increased by 40,754 inhabitants (2011-2023), or an average of 3,396 inhabitants per year.

Divided by 3, which is the average number of family members for Tirana, no more than 1,132 families can be added to the city per year, while the volume of building permits granted for residential residences increases the supply every year by at least 8 thousand houses.

It will take 45 years just to fill the 52,871 apartments that are empty, if the rate of population growth remains unchanged! What they have done with the construction is an economic, environmental, health and social crime. Do not deepen the crime", writes Ola Xama.
