"Messi's father passes away"/ Argentine presenter resigns after

A journalist and television presenter in Argentina has resigned after mistakenly reporting during a live broadcast that soccer star Lionel Messi's father had died, news that later turned out to be false and sparked widespread backlash.

Florencia Peña made the statement on her show on Luzu TV, while Messi was on the field with the Argentine national team. After verifications, the footballer's family clarified that Jorge Messi is alive, is receiving medical treatment and his condition is improving.

In its response, the Messi family requested respect for privacy and urged the media not to publish unconfirmed information. They stressed that only official statements from the family should be considered reliable sources.

Following the controversy, Peña publicly apologized, admitting that she had broadcast incorrect information and taking responsibility for the mistake. She then announced her departure from television.

Luzu TV also officially reacted to the incident, describing it as a serious violation of professional standards and confirming the termination of cooperation with the persons involved in publishing the fake news.
