Ghana's hero makes history at the World Cup, Yirenkyi breaks a 36-year-old

After Croatia's 4-2 defeat to England in their opening Group L match, Ghana secured a crucial victory over Panama, courtesy of a last-gasp goal from Caleb Yirenkyi, who scored in the fifth minute of added time to seal a 1-0 victory for his team.

The goal not only gave Ghana three points, but also secured a place in World Cup history for the 20-year-old midfielder. At 20 years and 153 days old, Yirenkyi became the youngest player ever to score the winning goal in extra time in a World Cup match.

With this achievement, he surpassed the record of Uruguayan Daniel Fonseca, who had held this statistic since the 1990 World Cup, when he scored against South Korea at the age of 20 years and 281 days.

In the historical ranking, they are followed by well-known names such as Haris Seferović, who scored for Switzerland against Ecuador in 2014, Harry Kane with his goal against Tunisia in the 2018 World Cup, and Edgar Davids, who gave the Netherlands victory against Yugoslavia in 1998.

With the decisive goal against Panama, Caleb Yirenkyi not only became the protagonist of the evening for Ghana, but also wrote his name among the most special records in World Cup history.
