Bylykbashi and Këlliçi meet with leaders of the Dutch Parliament: Support for the civic protest and its demands

Bylykbashi and Këlliçi meet with leaders of the Dutch Parliament:

The Democratic Party MPs, Oerd Bylykbashi and Belind Këlliçi, paid an official visit to the Netherlands, as part of the delegation of the Albanian Parliament. During this visit, they held two important meetings with senior representatives of the Dutch Parliament.
The focus of the discussions was the latest political developments in Albania, the civic protest that has been taking place for 17 days in Tirana and the diaspora, as well as the country's European integration process.
During the meetings, the Democratic MPs strongly raised their concern about the political and institutional situation in Albania, presenting to their interlocutors the demands and goals of the civic protest against the government.
They expressed their full support for this civic movement and for the legitimate demands of the protesters, emphasizing that the opposition stands by them in their efforts to restore democratic standards and government accountability.
The first meeting took place in The Hague with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Thom van Campen and the Speaker of the Senate Mei Li Vos and discussed extensively the process of Albania’s European integration and Albania’s challenges in meeting democratic standards and the rule of law.
The second meeting took place with the Speaker Rachel van Meetelen and members of the Committee on European Affairs in the House of Representatives of the Netherlands.
In both meetings, the representatives of the Democratic Party reiterated their full support for Albania’s European integration as a national strategic objective, but on the basis of merit, standards and real reforms.
The opposition MPs underlined the need for free and fair elections, strong and independent institutions, guaranteeing the rule of law, the separation of powers, as well as an uncompromising fight against organized crime, corruption and money laundering.
The Democratic Party remains committed to supporting Albania's European integration, but at the same time believes that this process cannot be the result of propaganda or compromises with standards. Albania deserves to move towards the European Union through real reforms, strengthening democracy, guaranteeing free voting and an uncompromising fight against corruption, organized crime and state capture.
The Democratic Party will continue to raise its voice in the international arena to make the cause and demands of the protesters known, as well as to seek international support for resolving the current political crisis in Albania, through the creation of a technical government, with the aim of organizing free and fair elections.
