EU opens first chapter of Ukraine's membership negotiations

 

The European Union has officially opened the first group of chapter negotiations for Ukraine's membership, towards European integration.

Ursula von der Leyen described this development as a major breakthrough, emphasizing that Ukraine has made significant progress in internal reforms.

"Today we are opening the first group of chapters of the EU accession negotiations. This is a major step forward," declared the President of the European Commission.

She added that Ukraine has fulfilled its share of obligations in the reform process and now it is the European Union's turn to act in the same way.

"Ukraine has made tremendous progress in reforms. They have fulfilled their obligations, so now we must do the same," she said.
