Murder in Mirdita, victim had escaped an assassination attempt three months ago

Valter Lleshi, who was found dead this Monday inside his vehicle in the village of Shkorrët in Mirdita, turns out to have been the target of an explosive attack earlier. Sources indicate that the 45-year-old was suspected of involvement in the murder of Anton Keli in Rrëshen in 2020, an event that was reported at the time to be related to possible drug trafficking conflicts.

Lleshi worked as a truck driver for a company that extracts inert materials from the Mat River. On March 15 of this year, a quantity of explosives was placed in the vehicle he was using for work, but he managed to escape the attack without sustaining any injuries.

However, on Monday morning, unidentified individuals are suspected of ambushing him as he was driving to his workplace, executing him in circumstances that remain under investigation by authorities.
