Valuables trafficking scheme busted, assets worth around 2 million euros seized

A police operation codenamed "Stolen Gold" has dismantled a suspected scheme of trafficking and trading in valuables stolen abroad, which were smuggled into Albania and sold in jewelry stores in Fier and Lushnja.

According to the State Police, a 27-year-old man has been arrested, while a 45-year-old man has been declared wanted as a suspect for the same criminal activity.

Also, seven jewelry store administrators have been criminally prosecuted, suspected of purchasing and trading illegal goods.

During the searches conducted in homes and commercial entities, authorities seized 15 kilograms and 259 grams of gold, 4 kilograms and 281 grams of silver, 612 watches of various brands, 13 diamond pendants, as well as other suspected objects of artistic and cultural value.

Cash in lek and euros, mobile phones, DVR equipment and other material evidence were also seized. The preliminary value of the seized items is estimated at around 2 million euros.
