Protesters 'challenge' the World Cup, a flood of people in the streets

Despite the start of the World Cup matches, thousands of citizens have chosen to join the protest in Tirana this evening, filling the "Martyrs of the Nation" boulevard and the main streets of the capital.

With national flags in their hands and anti-government slogans, protesters continued their march, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and changes in the country's direction. The large crowd stretched along several main axes of Tirana, creating impressive views from above.

"Rama, resign," "The homeland is not for sale," "Today or never," and "Down with corruption" were some of the chants that dominated the march.

The high turnout, even on an evening when the attention of the sports world is focused on the World Cup, has been interpreted by protesters as a sign of their determination to continue the protests and not give up on the demands they have been raising for days.
