Official/ US lifts sanctions against Sali Berisha

The United States of America has lifted sanctions against the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.

The news was communicated to Berisha himself in a 15-minute phone conversation by US Chargé d'Affaires Nancy Van Horme and the US Embassy in Tirana itself.

There is no official reaction from the State Department.

The State Department declared Berisha "non grata" in May 2021. This decision was announced by former Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
