The highest-paid professions in the first quarter are led by bankers and IT

In the first quarter of this year, the average gross monthly salary reached 90 thousand lek, reaching the highest historical level, according to INSTAT data, also influenced by the increase in the minimum wage from 40 to 50 thousand lek from January 1.

But what are the highest paying professions?

In first place remain those working in the banking and insurance system, with 157 thousand lek per month, an increase of 10.5%, compared to the same period a year ago. However, compared to the end of 2025, the salary of this activity has decreased by 9.1%, due to bonuses that are usually given at the end of the year.

In second place for some time has been the information technology activity, which has seen rapid growth in recent years, as a result of the demand for these professionals and the pressure from emigration. In the first quarter, those working in information technology were paid an average of 132 thousand lekë, with an increase of 8.5% on an annual basis.

In third place remains work in the state (Public administration and defense; mandatory social security; education; health and social work activities), which after continuous increases in the last two years, is paid an average of 105.4 thousand lek per month, with an increase of 7%.

"Real estate activities; Scientific, professional and technical activities; administrative and support service activities" are another profession that pays more than average, with 96.3 thousand lek per month, and an increase of 5%.

Those working in the activity of "Arts, entertainment and recreation, household goods production activities for own use and other services" were paid an average of 84 thousand lek, an increase of 5.5%.

Construction, due to the momentum this sector has gained in recent years, is being forced to increase salaries to find employees. The average salary in this sector has reached 83.3 thousand lekë, with a 22% increase on an annual basis. The stronger growth than the market is also related to the tax action to combat wage informality in this sector.

The industry sector has also recorded growth, reaching an average of 76 thousand lekë (+11%).

The activity of "Trade; transport; accommodation and food service activities" is paid on average at about 74 thousand lek per month, with an increase of 9.2%.

The lowest average salary in the country has reached 61 thousand lekë (+11.8%) and is paid in the agricultural sector./ Monitor
