The USA has started the 2026 World Cup in the best way, defeating Paraguay with a convincing 4-1 score in the first match of Group D, held at SoFi Stadium.

The Americans took the lead in the 7th minute thanks to an own goal by Paraguayan defender David Bobadilla. The USA continued to apply pressure and in the 31st minute Folarin Balogun doubled the lead after an assist from Christian Pulisic.

The American striker scored again in the fifth minute of added time of the first half, scoring the third goal and sending his team into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

In the second half, Paraguay responded and narrowed the gap in the 73rd minute with a goal from Mauricio, but hopes of a comeback were dashed at the end of the match. In the 90+8 minute, Giovanni Reyna sealed the 4-1 victory for the USA after an assist from Aidan Freeman.

With this success, the USA takes the first three points in Group D and gives a strong signal about its ambitions in this World Cup, while Paraguay will look for a response in the upcoming matches.
