Depopulation/ DP requests interpellation with Rama: The government is only

The Democratic Party has once again submitted a request for an interpellation with Prime Minister Rama, seeking explanations for the demographic crisis, mass emigration and the departure of young people from the country.

In a statement to the media from the Presidency of the Assembly, Democratic MP Ledina Alolli accused the government of not treating depopulation as a national priority.

According to the MP, the government has focused on enrichment and corruption, which has forced young people to leave Albania today. Alolli referred to the civic protest, emphasizing that those young people are protesting because they feel excluded from the system.

DECLARATION:

A few days ago, I requested an interpellation with the Prime Minister on this issue, but he did not deign to respond to his constitutional obligations, delegating responsibility to his subordinates.

The Democratic Party understands quite clearly that this issue is not a concern for the Prime Minister and the government. Their concern is only systematic enrichment and theft, turning Albania into a market for oligarchs and shell companies.

Albania is emptying every day, as young people leave and never return. This is creating a huge economic and social wound in the country.

This national alarm is confirmed by state institutions such as INSTAT and Eurostat, as well as other international reports.

The figures are alarming:

In 2025 alone, Albania lost about 33,000 young people aged 0–34. In just two years, we have lost over 32,000 people from the workforce. Today, about 1.6 million Albanians live abroad. In the last 12 years, Albania has lost about 95,000 women of reproductive age.

Today, our country is facing a deep demographic and social crisis, a silent wound that is hitting cities and villages, weakening the economy and endangering the future of Albania as a nation.

Every international report and every analysis on Albania and the Balkan countries ranks Albania among the countries most affected by emigration and population aging. Meanwhile, the World Bank estimates Albania to have the highest net emigration in the Western Balkans.

This situation cannot be treated simply as a statistic in official reports. These are no longer just numbers. These are alarm bells for the future of Albania.

This is the most dramatic indicator of a society that is losing its vital balances.

Every day, young people, students, professionals, doctors, nurses, engineers, farmers, and young families leave. They are not leaving out of a desire for adventure. They are leaving because they no longer see security, meritocracy, and prospects in their country.

This reality is made even more serious by the irresponsibility of the Albanian government and institutions. The indifference and lack of efforts to confront this problem or to try to curb this phenomenon make it dramatic.

They are leaving because they feel excluded from a system that does not reward knowledge, work, and honesty.

This is also the reason why for more than 12 days the streets of Tirana have been filled with thousands of protesters. They protest because they have clearly understood the paradox of this reality.

The protesters have realized that the government prides itself on "imaginary successes," while the reality of citizens is quite different.

I've said it and I'll say it out loud: depopulation is not a statistic.

He is the silent hemorrhage that is destroying Albania.

Therefore, the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group has once again submitted today the request for an interpellation with Prime Minister Edi Rama.

He has the obligation and responsibility to provide explanations for the demographic crisis, mass emigration, and the alarming departure of young people from Albania.

It has an obligation to tell Albanians what measures have been taken.

It has an obligation to show Albanians what the government is doing for them.

Albanians deserve answers. Today more than ever they are filling the squares in protest.

Even though they already know that the most accurate and best answer to what these people are going through is the departure of Edi Rama.

A country that loses its young generation has lost itself.

The Democratic Party will not allow this. Nor will the thousands of citizens who are in the square allow this.

No autocrat or corrupt person can bury hope.
