Germany kicks off 2026 World Cup with a bang, defeats debutants Curacao 7-1

Germany has started its journey to the 2026 World Cup in the most spectacular way possible. Julian Nagelsmann's team triumphed with a resounding 7-1 victory over debutants Curacao, sending a strong signal to their rivals in the first match of Group E.

The match in Houston started brightly for the Germans, who took the lead in the 6th minute through Nmecha. However, the surprise came in the 21st minute, when Comenencia equalized and temporarily raised Curaçao's hopes.

Germany's response was immediate. Schlotterbeck restored the lead with a header in the 38th minute, while Havertz scored from the penalty spot at the end of the first half to make it 3-1.

The second half turned into a monologue for the “Panzers”. Musiala scored the fourth goal just seconds after the restart, while Brown and Undav then extended the lead. In the 88th minute, Havertz sealed his evening with his second personal goal and Germany’s seventh.

With this convincing victory, Germany takes the lead in Group E with three points and an impressive goal difference. On the other hand, Curacao leaves without a point, but with the satisfaction of finding the back of the net against the four-time world champions in their historic World Cup debut.
