Berisha: Albania can never be called a developed country with a backward village

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during a meeting with farmers in Cërrik, stressed that Albania cannot be considered a developed country without the development of rural areas.

He focused on investments in rural infrastructure and irrigation, recalling the period 2005–2013 as a phase with significant investments in rural infrastructure and accusing that these policies have subsequently weakened.

Berisha underlined that living standards in the countryside should be equal to those in the city, considering the development of rural areas a fundamental condition for the development of the country as a whole.

Berisha : Major investments will be made with priority in rural infrastructure and irrigation.
I want to remind you that in the years 2005-2013, over 3 billion euros were invested in rural Albania. Over 3 billion euros. And again, at least 2 billion were needed to complete its road system.
Villages must have the same infrastructure as city neighborhoods.
Albania will never be a developed country without the standards of city neighborhoods in infrastructure for the country's villages being achieved. Not that this is not working, but I tell you it has deteriorated dramatically.
Water supply in cities. Not to mention, investments in rural areas are almost non-existent. He abolished the municipalities. It was a terribly heavy blow. Why? What relationship did we have during our government with the municipalities?
Such a report, we asked the mayors and councils of municipalities to make projects for roads, for sewers, for canals, while we as the government guaranteed the fund. I tell you that this report was extremely fruitful, useful.
And this report made it possible for 11,300 kilometers of roads to be built in the country, of which 8,000 were in rural Albania. About 700 water supply and sewer systems to be built. 45,000 fruit tree plantations and thousands of hectares of greenhouses to be financed.
We come back again.
I said it once again, Albania can never be called a developed country with a backward village. If the village is backward, the country is backward.
Let it build as many skyscrapers as it wants. Development shows here, the village shows, its level. Therefore, we pledge to you that we will have great priority.
