Zhupa meets with the French Senate delegation: Shared concern about construction

The Chair of the Committee on Culture, Tourism and Diaspora, Ina Zhupa, held a meeting with the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French Senate, chaired by Jean-François Rapin.

During the conversation, Zhupa raised concerns about construction in protected areas and presented her opposition to Law 21/2024, also informing the French senators about the initiative filed to repeal it.

According to Zhupa, the interlocutors shared the French experience in protecting the coast and natural spaces, while the discussions also focused on opportunities for the development of sustainable tourism and strengthening cooperation between Albania and France in this field.

Ina Zhupa's full status:

I had the pleasure of holding a meeting with the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French Senate, headed by Mr. Jean-François Rapin, accompanied by the Ambassador of France to Albania, Ms. Catherine Suard, where we discussed the protection of natural heritage and the sustainable development of tourism.

The honorable senators shared their concern about construction in protected areas in Albania and brought examples from the French experience in protecting the coast and natural spaces, including consolidated policies for the preservation of the coastline and institutions created for this purpose during the reforms undertaken in France.

I informed them in detail about the journey of Law 21/2024, which paved the way for allowing construction in protected areas, as well as our unwavering stance against it. I also informed them about the initiative I have filed to repeal this law and requested the support of European partners and institutions to restore nature protection standards, in accordance with the principles and requirements of the European Union.

The conversation also extended to the extraordinary potential that Albania has to develop a quality and sustainable tourism, in harmony with nature and cultural heritage. Cooperation with France can bring successful models and valuable experiences to build a development that respects the environment and serves future generations.
