Surprise at the World Cup, Egypt holds Belgium to a draw

The 2026 World Cup has produced another unexpected result. Belgium could only manage a 1-1 draw against Egypt in their Group G match in Seattle.

The “Pharaohs” put in a good performance and managed to strike first. In the 29th minute, Ashour fired a powerful shot that beat Courtois, giving the African team the advantage.

Egypt had other chances to double their lead, but Belgium responded in the second half through Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker, brought on from the bench, scored just moments after entering the field, restoring the balance in the 66th minute.

Despite the efforts of both teams in the remaining minutes, the score did not change and the teams shared one point each in the first match of the tournament.
