Germany makes history at the World Cup, overtakes Brazil and takes the top spot

The spectacular 7-1 victory over Curacao in the first match of the 2026 World Cup not only brought Germany three points, but also a historic record in world football.

Thanks to their seven goals in Houston, Germany moved into first place in the World Cup's all-time scoring charts, with 239 goals scored. The Germans have now overtaken Brazil, who have scored 238 goals in the tournament's history.

The record takes on even greater value considering that Germany has achieved this figure in 21 World Cup appearances, while Brazil is the only national team to have participated in all editions of the World Cup.

After the two giants of world football, the historical ranking continues with Argentina in third place with 152 goals, France with 136 and Italy with 128 goals.

Until the start of the 2026 World Cup, Brazil held the top spot with 237 goals, but the “Panzer”’s extraordinary performance against Curacao changed history. However, the race remains open, as both national teams are considered among the most attacking and successful teams in World Cup history.
