Former Kosovo minister sentenced to two years in prison for conflict of interest

The Basic Court in Pristina has found former Minister of Trade and Industry, Endrit Shala, guilty, sentencing him to two years in prison for the criminal offense of conflict of interest.

The trial panel assessed that the elements of the offense of "Abuse of Official Duty", for which he was initially charged, were not met, but decided to reclassify the case as "Conflict of Interest" and sentence him to prison.

According to the indictment, Shala had approved the appointment of a fuel inspection company, which was owned by a family member of his, enabling him to make significant financial gains.

In addition to the prison sentence, the former minister was also ordered to pay procedural costs and a contribution to the Crime Victims Compensation Fund. The decision is not yet final and the parties have the right to appeal within 30 days.
