Ronaldo continues to defy time, sets new World Cup record

Cristiano Ronaldo has written another chapter in the history of world football. The Portuguese striker took to the field as a starter in the match against Congo, becoming the oldest player to start a match from the first minute in the history of the World Cup.

At the age of 41 years and 132 days, Ronaldo broke the record for field players, proving once again the extraordinary longevity at the highest levels of football.

For the Portuguese star, this is also the sixth World Cup in his career, an achievement that places him in a very small group of footballers who have participated in so many editions of the most prestigious tournament in the world.

However, the absolute record for the oldest player to ever play in a World Cup remains in the hands of former Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, who in 2018 was activated at the age of 45.
