Marta Kos creates tensions in Brussels, sources for Politiko: Rama threatened

"We have received guarantees from the Albanian government that a full environmental impact assessment will be carried out and that European environmental protection standards will be respected."

This was the statement that Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, made in reference to concerns raised about the project in Zvërnec.

According to information provided by Politiko.al , this very statement by Kos has caused discussions and dissatisfaction in several European Union structures.

Sources from Brussels indicate that Kos' cabinet has faced questions and criticism regarding the content of the statement, which according to the same sources was not considered by everyone as a coordinated position among European institutions.

According to this information, public reactions and protesters' banners mentioning the Commissioner's name have also attracted attention in European circles, while critical comments against her have increased on social networks. At the same time, discussions are taking place within European institutions on the impact that the statement has had on the public debate in Albania.

Sources also claim that there have been informal contacts between European officials and Albanian staff at EU institutions to better understand the situation and public reaction in the country.

Meanwhile, according to the same sources, Prime Minister Edi Rama has clashed with several European officials during recent communications, and has even threatened them.

"He is behaving like a bully, we want him gone. Tell the citizens to continue the protests in the streets and not to retreat. We want Rama to leave," the officials said, as the source claims for Politiko.al.
