Teachers' Union supports protests: Government should listen to demands,

The Union of University Employees of Albania (SPUSH) has expressed support for the civic mobilization that has been taking place in Tirana and other cities in the country since May 31, 2026.

In a public statement, the union praised the protests as an expression of active citizenship and democratic engagement, emphasizing that some of its members have taken part in these rallies.

SPUSH has welcomed the peaceful and non-partisan character of the protests, which according to it are related to the protection of protected natural areas, public assets and the demand for broader citizen consultation in decision-making.

The union has also emphasized the role of young people in these initiatives, underlining that many of the protesters are students and former students of Albanian universities.

The statement also emphasizes that the protesters' demands comply with the principles of transparency, public accountability, and the standards of the European Higher Education Area.

SPUSH states that the academic community should have a more active role in public debates on issues related to the environment, sustainable development and management of public assets, seeking greater involvement of expertise in decision-making.

Finally, the union calls on the government and political forces to listen to the protesters' demands and commit to solutions in the interest of citizens and Albania's European integration process.
